The teachers were "declared surplus" on Thursday and Jeff Pelich, president of the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) Waterloo Region, said it's because the Ministry of Education has not yet released its education funding for the 2024-25 school year. Pelich said while some of the teachers will return to the classroom in the fall, "it's naive to assume that it will be business as usual for our school board."
