Any purchases would likely be benchmarked against the global Brent crude price. Refineries must still bear additional costs, including crude oil premiums, shipping and insurance, which have risen significantly. President Donald Trump said Friday that US forces had hit Iran’s Kharg Island, its biggest oil export hub, and “obliterated” military targets while sparing its energy facilities. The UN refugee agency has estimated that up to 3.2 million people have been displaced inside Iran since the war started. Beyond the Gulf, Turkey said NATO forces shot down a ballistic missile launched from Iran — the third such interception in the war. Lebanon has been drawn into the war, too, after the Iran-backed Hezbollah attacked Israel following the death of Khamenei.

The Ombudsman has resolved to petition the Constitutional Court to rule on whether the use of barcodes and QR codes on ballot papers in Thailand’s Feb 8 general election violated the constitutional requirement that voting be conducted directly and by secret ballot. The design and printing of ballot papers containing barcodes and QR codes could reasonably be believed to allow links to be made back to individual voters, it said. Other complaints pendingThe Office of the Ombudsman said it is also examining other complaints related to the conduct of the election. The Ombudsman is also reviewing complaints concerning the number of constituency and party-list ballot papers, which were reportedly not equal, and whether the use of barcodes and QR codes on ballot papers violated the Personal Data Protection Act. Not that Iran — facing its own political, military and economic upheaval from the war — is without its own long-term difficulties. But while Trump might want to walk away boasting of killing Khamenei and degrading the Iranian military, “Iran might not give him that off-ramp,” said Nate Swanson, of the Atlantic Council.
