The States said improvements to the Esplanade in St Helier were scheduled to start on Monday and run until January. Minister for Infrastructure Constable Andy Jehan said the scheme would give west-bound buses " a much quicker route", reduce congestion at Castle Street roundabout and improve the area with more greenery, a bus shelter and benches. There would be no road closures during these works, he added, which were the first of three phases. Liberty Bus director Kevin Hart said the Western Bus Gate was expected to take up to five minutes off journeys at peak times.
