In a statement released to the media, Chairman Wontumi appealed to the former Assin Central MP and NPP presidential aspirant to apologise to Dr Bawumia for what he described as unwarranted and castigatory attacks against him. Chairman Wontumi admitted that he made remarks suggesting that the late Professor Albert Adu Boahen did not contest the 1996 presidential election due to ill health. He stressed that the comments should not have been attributed to Dr Bawumia. According to Chairman Wontumi, the information was shared with him by a respected elder of the party and renowned industrialist, Appiah Menka, who he said also made reference to the issue in a book he authored. Chairman Wontumi therefore urged Kennedy Agyapong to retract his comments and issue an apology to Dr Bawumia for the insults directed at him over remarks he did not make.
