Wind-whipped wildfires tore through parts of Hawaii on Wednesday, resulting in the destruction of structures in historic Lahaina Town on the island of Maui. As a result, evacuations were ordered, and some residents sought refuge in the ocean, where they were eventually rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. The U.S. Coast Guard promptly responded to distress calls from people forced to seek refuge in the ocean due to the fire and smoky conditions. In total, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued 12 individuals off the coast of Lahaina.
