Scotland’s fishermen fear the EU will demand greater access to UK waters in return for re-setting post Brexit arrangements. Re-opening the sand-eel sector could be part of a wider re-negotiation of fishery restrictions on EU vessels. Revised EU access deals will therefore be the responsibility of the Starmer administration. Labour has said it intends to renegotiate parts of the Brexit trade deal to remove red tape on food imports and exports. That, in turn, will certainly trigger an EU bid for greater access to UK fishing grounds and a possible sell-out of the industry by Sir Keir Starmer.
