There are not enough reservoirs and leaks from those already built plus pipes send water levels plunging. Prickend Pond is at the lowest point of the common, and water travels there through ditches and drains. In 1960, a pipe was laid from Rush Pond to Prickend Pond so that water might flow from one to the other. But in recent years the water in Rush Pond has not been high enough to reach the overflow.
