Heavy rain and whirlwinds wreaked havoc on some parts of Bac Lieu Province in southern Vietnam early on Friday morning, causing one house to collapse and blowing off the roofs of eight others. Authorities are working to help the affected households in Vinh Trach Commune cope with the aftermath of the weather-related incident, the provincial steering committee for natural disaster prevention and control said the same day. The steering committee also suggested offering a total amount of VND225 million (US$8,890) to the impacted residents. The hours-long downpour also brought flooding to many roads in Bac Lieu City and several others in Gia Rai Town, making life of commuters a misery. The steering committee demanded that the provincial administration assign relevant agencies to take action to ensure security in the whirlwind-hit area.
