Area firefighters had their hands full on a busy, windy, sometimes hot weekend in Gage County. Lisa Wiegand, Gage County emergency manager, said area firefighters battled four fires from three incidents on Saturday, when the National Weather Service had issued a red-flag warning for the county. That one continued north and crossed U.S. 136, after which Wiegand said firefighters battled it as two separate fires. The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for Gage County on Sunday, again pointing to low humidity and high winds. Wiegand said the weather service information was helpful to the firefighting efforts.
