The response comes following call from Prime Minister Sheikh HasinaThe United Nations is ‘ready’ to assist Bangladesh in conducting an inquiry into the violence and fatalities which occurred during protests against quotas reserved for government jobs. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the United Nations and other international bodies for cooperation in the investigation. While discussing the move, Dujarric said the UN is ‘ready’ to provide assistance at the Bangladesh government's request. A large number of lives were lost as the violence escalated in the following days from Jul 16 to Jul 21. Several human rights organisations and coalitions, including the United Nations, have condemned the fatalities and demanded an impartial, transparent and fair investigation into the deaths.
