As the results of New Zealand’s very first VegElection are in, we now know what the nation’s favorite and most despised vegetables are. And there is a clear winner: it is the common tomato. It topped the polls, with some 4,500 people casting their votes from across New Zealand. With a clear majority, the tomato was declared a versatile and widely used ingredient in salads, sauces, and sandwiches, making them a popular choice for many people. The Brussels sprout did not get the title of ‘Most Hated Vege’; that dubious honor was taken by the much-criticized kale.
