These alert levels are: level 0 indicates “quiet or no alert”; Level 1 “a low level of abnormal volcanic unrest”; Level 2, “a moderate level of increasing volcanic unrest”; Level 3 “a high level of unrest indicating an increased tendency towards hazardous eruption”; Level 4 “a hazardous eruption is imminent”; and Level 5 “a hazardous eruption is in progress. The Mount Pinatubo eruption also affected the world’s temperature, dropping it by half a degree Centigrade in the following year.
