Sir Keir Starmer is poised to approve the new Chinese super-embassy in London, it has been reported. A Whitehall source told The Times on Thursday that the embassy’s approval by Dec 10 was likely to be a “formality”. It is understood that the intelligence agencies feel confident in their ability to mitigate any potential security risks around the embassy site. Sources have pointed out that the security service is well accustomed to countering national security risks from foreign states’ bases in the capital. He told Bloomberg: “It’s right and proper that the Chinese should get their embassy.”
