Delivering a speech on the sidelines of the global climate summit, the foreign minister added that COP27 activities have so far probed ways to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), mitigate climate change, support the adaptation agenda, and respond to devastating extreme weather events and climate changes affecting the world. The agendas under discussion need international action in addition to addressing climate change as soon as possible before 2025, Shoukry said, noting that support should be provided to countries that are unable to adapt. On that score, he said there are great aspirations for an effective participation by all countries and for everyone to live up to their responsibilities to confront climate changeIn a special interview with CNN on Tuesday, Foreign Minister and Head of COP 27 Sameh Shoukry asserted that Egypt wants to see a clear commitment towards reducing global warming gases and emissions and the adaptation of developing countries with the climate change in addition to providing finance necessary to empower these countries to shoulder responsibility. Shoukry said that he is concerned about the delay of some countries to fulfill their duties, adding that this has a negative impact. On listing an item for losses and damages on the agenda of COP 27, Shoukry said that listing this item is an accomplishment, adding that we should have think practically and be sure that within a timeline all parties will be able to reach an understanding on the mechanism of providing finance to the developing countries in relation to issue of damage and losses.
