Seeing the war experience of Ukrainians brings back my own memories of fleeing Syria. His family fled the war in Syria and is now a Canadian citizen. My friends and I had decided to skip school that day in our hometown of Aleppo in Syria. We ran back and saw that the whole city was locked down and there were army and police officers everywhere. Fortunately for my family, my mother was able to apply to the United Nations for asylum and was accepted.
