The Saskatchewan New Democratic Party won two of three byelections yesterday, both in the capital city of Regina, by decisive margins, neither of which have been held by the Party in over a decade. The ruling Saskatchewan Party held the third seat, in a rural area of the province. This takes the opposition NDP to 14 seats in the Legislature, while the Saskatchewan Party holds 46 and the Saskatchewan United Party holds one. Over and over again, we're hearing from people in rural Saskatchewan who are tired of the Sask Party taking them for granted." As background, the Saskatchewan Party is a coalition of Conservatives and Liberals (neither party exists provincially) that was forged to keep the NDP out of power.
