The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition was responding to news that the Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa, is investing R5.2 billion ($272 million) in its local operations for production of the first-ever Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The sector is expected to receive a further boost once the Electric Vehicle White Paper is finalised by the government, which is expected during the current financial year.
