Three decades of democracy have demonstrated that our PR system is susceptible to corrupt political rent-seeking and has slowly eroded the wishes of voters keen on voting for issues close to their hearts, writes Rich Mkhondo. Posters are up and campaigns are in full swing for the 29 May election. Over 200 political parties are expected to contest this election. We are going to choose who goes to Parliament using the proportional representation (PR) system, which has been in place since 1994. As leaders of political parties criss-cross the country pleading for our votes, the political landscape has changed but not our electoral system.
