Intense snow squalls took over Buffalo, N.Y. this weekend - with one lake-effect band bringing enough accumulation to bury a car south of the city. Buffalo's Erie County declared a state of emergency last Thursday and imposed a driving ban for all but authorized emergency vehicles. A mixture of cold winds, unseasonably warm water temperatures, and high moisture combined to create potent, lake-effect snow bands, along with loud claps of thundersnow. The snow attracted a lot of attention online, causing the word "Buffalo" to trend on Twitter Friday afternoon. Here's a look at the weather event so far, in photos.
