According to local media, Petrobangla owed the NBR Taka 375 billion in income taxes, VAT, and customs fees. Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarkar stated that a long-term loan from the finance ministry is being considered to pay off the debt. As per NBR records, the outstanding amount was solely in VAT, totalling Taka 225.84 billion. According to Chairman Janendra, the finance ministry is providing a 25-year loan to cover the cost of importing LNG. Using a similar strategy, the finance ministry will handle the outstanding debts in the upcoming fiscal year, 2024–2025.
