HÀ NỘI — The Party Central Committee has nominated General Tô Lâm, a Member of the Politburo and Minister of Public Security, to be the President of Việt Nam. Trọng congratulated the committee for unanimously nominating Tô Lâm, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security, to the NA for election as the next State President; and Trần Thanh Mẫn, Politburo member and NA Permanent Vice Chairman for the top legislator position. General Tô Lâm, born on July 10, 1957, in Hưng Yên Province, joined the People's Public Security Force in 1974. In 2016, he was elected as a member of the Politburo while serving as Minister of Public Security, a position he still holds. In 2021, he was re-elected to the Politburo and assigned key roles in the Central Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption, the Central Committee for Internal Political Protection, the National Defence and Security Council and the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform.
