A recent study sheds light on a concerning link between these sugary beverages and a heightened risk of chronic kidney disease. Over the course of the study 4,459 participants developed chronic kidney disease. Notably consuming up to one artificially sweetened drink amplified the risk by 10% while exceeding this amount escalated the risk to 26%. “One serving per day of any sweetened beverages was associated with an increased risk of incident chronic kidney disease,” says Dr. Heo. In a society where choices shape health outcomes, a small change in beverage preferences could make a substantial difference in kidney health.
