Norway, Spain, and Ireland to Formally Recognize Palestinian StateWed 22nd May, 2024In a significant diplomatic move, Norway, along with European Union members Spain and Ireland, has announced plans to officially recognize Palestine as an independent state. This announcement follows recent indications from Slovenia and Malta, suggesting that they too may recognize Palestine in a coordinated effort with Spain and Ireland. Currently, over 130 of the 193 United Nations member states recognize Palestine as an independent state. Notably, the United States and Germany are among those that do not, due to their strong alliances with Israel. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz condemned the move on social media, asserting, "Israel will not stand idly by while its sovereignty is challenged and its security threatened.
