Newcastle United chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan faces a £58 million lawsuit over accusations he “carried out the instructions” of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince with “malicious intent”, it has been reported. According to The Athletic, legal papers sent to Al-Rumayyan at St James’ Park and other high-profile locations, allege he acted with the aim of “harming, silencing and ultimately destroying” the family of Dr Saad Aljabri, the Gulf state’s former intelligence chief. Aljabri was said to be accusing Al-Rumayyan and others of being “directly involved” in a three-and-a-half year campaign to pursue his family. Al-Rumayyan is the governor of PIF, the sovereign wealth fund that acquired an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle United in 2021. Newcastle referred requests for comment to PIF, intermediaries for which did not respond for requests for comment.
