Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) is working to resolve a frequency network breakdown which resulted in several flights being delayed at the OR Tambo International Airport this weekend. According to ATNS, the breakdown affected the navigation and communication of various aircraft, resulting in a backlog and the delay of numerous flights on Saturday. According to ATNS, additional air traffic controllers were deployed and working hours at different regional airports were extended to clear the backlog and facilitate the delayed flights. "About 80% of the disrupted communication network service, which first showed signs of weakness on Wednesday, has already been resolved by the technical support teams. Speaking to News24, ATNS spokesperson Percy Morokane said the breakdown did not impact any flights on Sunday.
