Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hasan on Wednesday said seven naval vessels will be deployed in coastal and maritime areas, and 5,000 Bangladesh Navy personnel will be assigned on election duties ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. The Navy personnel will be deployed across 25 upazilas in 16 parliamentary constituencies, Admiral Hasan said after inspecting the Kutubdia contingent. He added that the armed forces would maintain a restrained, voter-friendly posture during the election. “However, any attempt to engage in criminal activities or create disorder during polling will be dealt with firmly.”Addressing concerns raised over the role of law enforcement in past elections, Admiral Hasan said efforts would be made to address previous shortcomings by learning from earlier experiences. Earlier, the navy chief attended a briefing on the law and order situation with the divisional commissioner and senior police officials.
