‘Finance Bill must pass’: Kenya Kwanza leaders defend tax proposalsAs the storm rages against the 2024 Finance Bill, there has also been a fierce backlash against members of parliament (MPs) who voted in favour of the tax proposals. Leaders within Kenya Kwanza, however, seemed unfazed by the blowback, insisting that they will pass the bill, arguing that they have met the demands of Kenyans who wanted it scrapped. Despite praising the protesters for being peaceful, the leaders did not comment on the police brutality that marred the peaceful protests and left two dead. They defended the bill, saying some of the controversial clauses have been removed and will be removed during the third reading on Tuesday. They also hailed the ongoing countrywide demonstrations led by the country’s youths, Ichung’wa and Cheruiyot, saying the President will listen to the Gen Z’s plea.
