The Western Cemetery is where relatives of King Khufu - the pharaoh behind the Great Pyramid - and top officials were buried in tombs more than 4,500 years ago. Discovered between 2021 and 2023, evidence of the findings have just been published in the journal Archaeological Prospection. Lead researcher Motoyuki Sato of Tohoku University told Live Science that the sharp geometry convinces him it’s not a natural formation.
