The UK Government will test the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday September 7 at 3pm. While Sunday's alert is just a test, the Government is set to use the system to issue warnings and advice in an emergency situation. Real emergencies that would prompt one of the alerts include: wildfires, severe flooding, extreme storms and other life-threatening situations that may be in progress nearby. A spokesperson for the UK Government said: "An alert will include a phone number or a link to the GOV.UK website for more information." Emergency services can still contact people who are near a life-threatening situation even if they do not have a device compatible with the Emergency Alert system.
