From Tribune staff reportsLEEDS — Firefughters from Leeds Fire and Rescue battled a massive blaze at an abandoned church on Ashville Road on Saturday evening, according to city officials. “Around 5 p.m. today, we were notified of a fire at the old church on Ashville Road,” Fire officials said. Officials said attention had to be placed on area houses due to high winds blowing embers across Ashville Road. Several citizens grew up or attended this church when it was First Baptist Church and while it was Pathway Baptist Church. “Leeds Street Dept for barricades and sanding the street and sidewalk in the area.
