The head of Manchester airport has apologised to stranded passengers after an unexplained “power spike” ruined the start of thousands of summer holidays. Chris Woodroofe, the airport’s managing director, said he hoped that normal operations would resume on Monday. “My sincere, personal apologies to every single passenger who has been impacted by what has gone on at Manchester airport today,” he said. “There was a big power spike in our electrical system due to a failure early this morning.
