A dusty haze settles over the city of Imperial at dusk near the site of a proposed 950,000-square-foot data center on in March. Many residents are concerned about the health and environmental issues a data center could bring to the community. A man speaking out against a proposed data center said he was removed and arrested at an Imperial County Board of Supervisors meeting this week for a vote related to the project. A city in Missouri recently ousted every incumbent council member who supported a data center project in favor of candidates who opposed it. Data centers have existed for decades but are rapidly changing and expanding due to the worldwide boom in artificial intelligence.
