Lora Cicalo, a mainstay at The San Diego Union-Tribune for more than three decades, was named senior editor of the newspaper Friday. A lifelong resident of San Diego County, Cicalo joined the San Diego Tribune in 1987 as a copy editor and assistant news editor. After the Tribune merged with The San Diego Union in 1992, she served in a number of positions, the most recent being managing editor since January 2015. Cicalo holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in mass communications from San Diego State University and is a part-time lecturer at her alma mater. While Alden Global Capital owns the Union-Tribune, it will be managed by Alden affiliate MediaNewsGroup under a management services agreement.
