The Liberal Democrats have been reported to the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) over allegations a party candidate was deselected over his Christian views. But local party members told him “we do not recognise your right to have a conscience”. In a letter to the EHRC, Campanale’s supporters called for an independent investigation into “multiple alleged breaches of equality law and our party constitution”. They wrote: “This evidence depicts a supposedly liberal organisation allowing clear religious discrimination and hostility to thrive within its ranks. Undermining Christian foundationsCampanale told The Christian Institute in 2022 that the claims he had hidden his Christian faith during the candidate selection process could have been tested by “a quick online search”.
