On Friday, March 8, the Kenyan newspapers reported that former prime minister Raila Odinga could be locked out of the African Union (AU) Commission chair race under new proposed rules. The dailies also delved into the winners of the KSh 4.2 trillion proposed budget for the 2024/2025 financial year (FY). Elections for the senior leadership of the AU Commission are set for February 2025. Only one woman, Nkosozana Dlamini-Zuma (2012-2017), has been at the helm of the AU Commission since its inception. The Ministry of Transport has a budget of KSh 221.9 billion, Defence KSh 200.7 billion, Education KSh 191.6 billion, Medical Services KSh 125.9 billion, National Treasury KSh 121.3 billion and Housing KSh 82.5 billion.
