Jean Marsh, Co-Creator of ‘Upstairs, Downstairs,’ Dies at 90


Jean Marsh, the Emmy-winning actress and co-creator of the iconic British television series Upstairs, Downstairs, has passed away at the age of 90. Marsh herself won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1975. The idea for Upstairs, Downstairs was conceived by Marsh and fellow actress Dame Eileen Atkins while house-sitting in France. Marsh reprised her role as Rose Buck in the BBC revival of Upstairs, Downstairs from 2010 to 2012. Jean Marsh leaves behind a legacy of creativity and excellence that transformed British television and inspired generations of viewers worldwide.
