Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich was among 16 people released from Russian custody shortly after Washington and Moscow completed their largest prisoner exchange since the cold war. The Guardian's global affairs correspondent, Andrew Roth, spoke with Gershkovich at Andrews air force base near Washington DC. Gershkovich spoke about his feelings boarding the bus with the other freed detainees on Thursday and said he was happy to see Russian political prisoners on board as well. He was met by senior editors at the Wall Street Journal, and can be heard saying: ‘My mother writes very nice things about you’
