TWO years ago this month, Andrew Nethsingha was appointed Organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey, a post that he took up in January 2023, just a few months before the Coronation. “I think I’m lucky to be a person who has a lot of ideas,” he says. “It is a joy to have some of the country’s leading consort and solo singers in my choir at the Abbey. I walk past him every day.”Other musicians with memorials in the Abbey include Mr Nethsingha’s predecessors Orlando Gibbons and Henry Purcell. “Looking at organists of Westminster Abbey over the last few hundred years, as far as I know, I’m the oldest person to have been appointed to this role.
