On Friday, US authorities announced that the Seattle police officer involved in the fatal collision with Indian student Jaahnavi Kandula, while responding to an overdose call, will not face criminal charges due to insufficient evidence. The decision was made by the King County Prosecutor’s Office, as reported by media reports. Despite acknowledging the tragic impact of Kandula’s death, the Prosecutor’s Office stated that they would not pursue charges against Officer Kevin Dave. Kandula, aged 23, was struck by Officer Dave’s speeding police vehicle while crossing a street in Seattle on January 23.
