Police have addressed criticism over naming former MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, also known as Nixon Chowdhury, as the main suspect in the attack and vandalism at Bhanga Police Station during a protest against the delimitation of the Faridpur-4 constituency. A media statement signed by Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Ops) Shamsul Azam on Friday night provided information about the Awami League leader. It also said Nixon exploited these protests, making provocative statements and taking actions on social media that have disrupted law and order in the Upazila. According to the statement, Nixon’s supporters entered government offices in Bhanga, vandalising property and setting vehicles on fire on Sept 15. In response to legal action, he posted another video making “illegal” demands against the government and the Election Commission and criticised police on social media.
