How Matthews extension could reset Leafs’ salary cap debacle

It’s not as though Leafs Nation needs a reminder but we’ll say it again anyway: the NHL salary cap stinks. Now, once again, Maple Leafs fans are forced to watch a contract standoff sequel play out as the club’s top stars seek their next big payday. And despite the Leafs having the option to give Matthews and Marner a hard “no” to their demands, they bent. Fans want to label the Maple Leafs’ dressing room as a bad one. And Matthews is the only guy who can reset this salary cap debacle.
