Artefacts looted by the British in the colonial era have been returned to Ghana and are already on public view. In 2022 the German government announced the transfer of ownership of some 1,000 Benin Bronzes. Some museums in the UK and US that were on the verge of transferring ownership of their Benin Bronzes are now hesitating, confused by Nigeria’s internal divisions. Mr Agyeman-Duah hopes the numbers of visitors to the Manhyia Palace Museum will double over the next year. The loan with the British Museum and V&A is for three years, with the possibility of a three-year renewal.
