Fresh case filed against 5,500 over attack on NCP rally in GopalganjA fresh case has been started over the deadly unrest surrounding a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj. The latest case, filed by Gopalganj Sadar Police Station Inspector Motiar Rahman on Tuesday, involves charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act, and lists a total of 5,500 suspects. The first information report (FIR) notes that on Jul 16, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organisations, whose activities have been banned, launched an attack on the stage for the NCP's rally at the Gopalganj municipal park. So far, a total of 13 cases have been filed over the attack on the NCP rally, vandalism at the district jail and other locations, attacks on police, vandalism and arson of vehicles, involvement in anti-state activities, and incidents of murder. As many as 1,134 people affiliated with the banned Awami League have been implicated, and another 14,450 are listed as unidentified suspects.
