The analysis, collated by the All‑Ireland Science Media Centre, highlighted recent EU audit findings and a December recall of Brazilian beef in Ireland have intensified farmers’ concerns. According to the audit, Brazilian authorities could not “reliably attest” EU requirements were being met. It also undermines any claim of a level playing field for EU farmers. It makes little global sense to replace lower‑carbon Irish beef with higher‑carbon imports. Without this, they warn, the burden of high standards will continue to fall disproportionately on Irish and EU farmers.
