Some of Canada’s Indigenous communities pause to give thanks for the fall harvest and the longer hours of sunlight that the summer season bestowed. The fall equinox also leads to Orange Shirt Day, which is on September 30. Fall is also an essential time for the food of Indigenous communities. Equinox represents an opportunity to celebrate their connection with Earth.
