A viral statement attributed to EACC Spokesman Eric Ngumbi indicating that the Commission accused Cooperative CS Nominee Wycliffe Oparanya of lying under oath before the National Assembly committee on appointments is fake. The fake statement claimed that Oparanya, who was summoned to the EACC offices, recorded a statement on August 23, 2023. The Star contacted EACC spokesman Eric Ngumbi who denied authoring such a letter. "The viral statement is fake as the EACC has not commented on the issues raised by Oparanya during his vetting," Ngumbi said. Oparanya had earlier stated that the EACC had never called him to write a statement regarding the alleged abuse of office and money laundering claims against him.
