Every Kenyan, including unemployed youth aged over 25, will be required to pay for the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF). According to the announcement from the Ministry of Health, unemployed Kenyan youth will not be exempted from the new monthly contribution to the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) starting from July 1, 2024. Health Minister Susan Nakhumicha stated that the monthly contribution to the program will be mandatory for all Kenyans aged over 25. However, CS Nakhumicha emphasized that those who are unemployed and aged over 25 will be required to pay a contribution of KSh 300. According to Minister Nahumicha, only youth under the age of 25 will enjoy the benefits through their parents.
