Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania Forge Regional Power Partnership – Africa.com

Kenya is set to mediate a power export agreement between Ethiopia and Tanzania, facilitating regional energy distribution. Under the deal, Ethiopia will supply 100 megawatts of power to Tanzania via Kenya’s transmission infrastructure. According to Ethiopian Electric Power, the final volume of electricity to be delivered may be adjusted during forthcoming negotiations. The arrangement will see power transported from southern Ethiopia’s Sodo region to Kenya’s Suswa, and then to Arusha in northern Tanzania. Kenya, which began importing 200 megawatts from Ethiopia in 2022, will play a key role in this energy partnership as it awaits regulatory approvals.
