A grassroots effort is underway to increase funding for PK-12 teachers and student-support professionals in Colorado school districts without increasing state income taxes. Colorado ranks 49th nationally on the number of novice teachers in the classroom, also according to Great Education Colorado. The initiative is the brainchild of Great Schools, Thriving Communities, an education coalition comprised of practitioner, advocacy and social justice organizations. These include The Arc of Colorado, the Colorado Association of Bilingual Education, Colorado Association of School Executives, Colorado Education Association, Colorado PTA and the NAACP. Weil, with Great Education Colorado, is a former Greeley resident and 1981 graduate of Greeley Central High School.
