The problem with being the Prime Minister, however, is that there is nowhere to walk away to. Hipkins’ and Labour’s next step would be to address the Greens’ fiscal policies. On a roll, Robertson would then announce the re-instatement of the policy Labour took to the electorate in 2011: the removal of GST from basic food items. The same point Jim Anderton’s Alliance arrived at back in the 1990s when it, too, was tasked with filling the fiscal hole created by its even more generous tax policies.
